One of the best ways to get a real hands-on muzzleloading experience is to build a pistol yourself. Easy to read instructions guide you through the building process to a finished product. There is no greater feeling of accomplishment than knowing you built a fully functional pistol for shooting or display.
Most early mountain men, trappers and traders proudly carried single-barreled pistols as their weapon of choice. These pistols proved to be extremely reliable. That same reliability was essential for a trapper who might have to stake his life on his pistol’s ability to provide a backup shot in what could be a dire situation.
The Traditions™ Trapper pistol’s primitive-style adjustable rear sight, octagonal barrel, and double-set triggers capable of firing set or unset, allows the shooter to predictably put his shots on target. This Traditions pistol is a .50 caliber percussion model that has a 9.75" steel barrel. The Trapper™ is 15.5" in length and comes with a select hardwood stock.

A Fine Firearm review by R.M. on 12/8/2019
"As my first kit build, this pistol came with it's own set of challenges, but with a little patience and a rudimentary knowledge of chiseling, filing, sanding, and finishing I was able to complete the project in just a couple of days. It came out looking exactly like I had hoped, and the imperfections on my part only add to the rugged, field-worn character of the firearm.
Inletting the lock and barrel was easy. I did, however, have ro remove a fairly significant amount of wood from the butt end as the wood stood proud of the brass by ~1\32" all around. I also had to remove a good bit of wood from the trigger inlet to make the trigger engage with the sear.
I finished it with Watco dark walnut danish oil mixed with a blend of Minwax Red Mahogany and Ebony stain . The result was a satin, antique-looking reddish brown that compliments the the brass perfecly. I 409'd the barrel and blued it with BC Permablue. Again, this thing looks fantastic and shoots 8-ring groups at 25yds offhand. The recoil is more than manageable even with a sizeable 45gr charge and a buffalo bullet on top.
Take your time with the fit and finish and you'll be rewarded with a wonderdlful looking, perfectly functional, accurate pistol. "
Nice fun pistol kit to assemble review by Steve on 7/20/2018
"This was a fun pistol kit to assemble. Everything went smoothly as expected. I stained mine with English Chestnut and finished it with Tru-Oil. I used Oxpho-Blue to blue the barrel. "
If only the barrel were blued as described... review by George Houchens on 5/5/2017
"Then it would have been perfect.
Great kit review by Shooting instructor on 9/13/2016
"I bought one of these kits for my kids to use shooting in 4-H shooting sports competitions. We had a good time building the kit. It wasn't simple but anyone fairly handy can do it. The secret is to use carbon paper when trimming the grip to fit the barrel and just take off a little at a time. This firearm functioned flawlessly for my kids and was accurate enough to win several state medals. Now that they are grown, I have set the trigger weight to 6oz and am competing with it myself.
I love this gun. I am on the site today to buy a new kit to have when my new grandson gets old enough."
Good kit pistol review by Ray K. on 9/20/2015
"Like how it turned out, shoots well. Wish the instructions were better."
Trapper review by Nate W. on 7/21/2015
"Finally got around to shooting my Traditions Trapper Model percussion .50 caliber...The first two shots were in the ring above the bullseye, 2nd group of two shots were to the right of the bullseye. 3rd group of two shots were just below the bullseye and a nice clover group where it shot the remaining 2-3 shots...it was a blast! It's a nice shooting gun...I can't wait to take it out again and see how it shoots at farther distances...The Trapper model is a nice shooting gun, and it was relatively cheap to purchase."
