Description

Blackhorn™ 209 Muzzleloader Powder Substitute is a high performance, low residue propellant engineered for modern Inline Muzzleloaders with 209 primer ignition systems. Produced by Western Powders, this revolutionary, powder substitute shoots consistently, producing higher velocities and greater accuracy than other propellants. In addition, Blackhorn™ 209 is the only non-corrosive, muzzleloading powder on the market today that remains unaffected by temperature and humidity, sharply reducing misfires and hang-fires.

Blackhorn’s™ high-performance, Muzzleloading Powder can be used with any standard 209 shotshell primer. The powder leaves no curd ring in the barrel, and can be readily cleaned with regular oil-based solvents. Because of its non-corrosive nature, there is minimal fouling, so the need to swab between shots is eliminated, resulting in increased time in the field.

When compared with volume equivalents, Blackhorn™ 209 is ballistically superior to other muzzleloading propellants. This powder substitute claims the industry's lowest standard deviations and low pressure-to-velocity ratio for precise performance every time. Blackhorn™ 209 is recommended for high-performance Muzzleloaders with 209 primer ignition systems where the primer is totally enclosed. This powder substitute is not for use with any special Muzzleloading primers, #11, musket or high-powered Rifle primers or Sidelock Muzzleloaders.

Blackhorn™ 209 Muzzleloading Powder is arguably the best and most efficient black powder substitute. The powder not only results in higher velocities and better accuracy, but burns clean with minimal residue, plus produces consistent fps, and cleans up easily.  Powder comes in  convenient 8 oz. or 5 lbs. bottle. What more could you ask for? The Blackhorn™ 209 Powder Substitute is everything it says it is and then some.

**Do not exceed the loads displayed in the loading guide. Never mix any two powders regardless of type, brand, or source. Never substitute any smokeless powder for Black Powder or any Black Powder substitute.

It is the best powder but at what cost. I will not be using or recommending this product in the future. I feel foolish recommending this product to my friends. Everyone meticulously developed loads for there rifle and now have to start over.
Will go to black powder than purchase another Hodgdon product.

Very accurate

I have a CVA optima in stainless steel. I also have the black horn 209 breech plug. I load 100 grains by volume of Blackhorn 209 with a 250 grain Barnes bullet. I have found that you really should use a good primer. Do not use the primers made for black powder as this is not black powder. I use the CCI magnum primers only. Never had a misfire. I have also found a few things that are also necessities. If you are using any other black powder make sure you clean your barrel like it’s brand new. After you’re done clean it again with the same solvents that you use for a rifle or a shotgun. You can’t use water-based cleaners with this or you leave a sticky residue and your barrel will fail and you will think it is the black horn 209 which it is not. Buy a 50 caliber bore snake and all you have to do is pull that through it once every three or four shots at the target range and it will clean it. I also have a CVA wolf for my son which shoots as accurate as my gun. I have two knight disc rifles that at first had a hang fire but( don’t recommend) I drilled the flash hole out to the next drill size which was not much but it made a world of difference and fires every single time now.

Blackhorn 209

Blackhorn powder is hands down the cleanest and best shooting powder that I've ever used! I'm shooting 80grn by volume with hornady xtp 240s and they are tack drivers at 100yds! I have never had a misfire using Blackhorn 209 and Winchester W209 primers!

Great stuff

Great powder. Very accurate with 90g in my 70's TC Hawken 50 with a magspark 209 adapter. I can shoot all day at the range and don't have to clean until I get home. First shot loads as easy the last. Spend more time shooting!
